A house without furniture isn’t a home, and any person or family without the financial means to turn their empty apartment into a furnished home is enduring furniture poverty.
Not having a bed to sleep on results in a poor night’s sleep, affecting the person’s ability to live, work, and study. Not having a sofa to sit on means that you don’t have people over to visit, and a home without a kitchen table results in no place to share a meal or complete a homework assignment. The majority of households served by the Capital Region Furniture Bank have none of the items listed above; however, you can change that by donating your gently used furniture and by making a financial gift.
Founded in 2016, the Capital Region Furniture Bank accepts donations of furniture from community members who are downsizing and offers these goods to individuals and families transitioning from homeless shelters to permanent housing. Through our network of human service agencies, we identify which families can benefit most from our donated goods.
Our goal is simple: to eliminate furniture poverty and restore hope to struggling households.

In addition to eradicating furniture poverty, the Capital Region Furniture Bank is a training ground for people with a history of Justice Involvement. Reducing the number of people returning to jail or prison means ensuring that those persons have access to employment, housing, and treatment.
Did you know that over 30% of people return “home” to a homeless shelter? Without a job or a place to live, how do we ensure that returning citizens come home and stay home? The Capital Region Furniture Bank assists formerly incarcerated people with paid training, transportation, and a place to call home. By supporting the Capital Region Furniture Bank, you're eradicating furniture poverty AND reducing recidivism!
