Get Involved with HATAS
As a non-profit human services agency, we rely on the generous support of our community to fulfill our mission. Many people provide support through contributions of time, money, and items from our wish list.
In 2016 HATAS served over 13,000 persons. Your dedicated support is needed to prevent the children we see today from becoming the adults that we serve tomorrow.
HATAS is a 501(c)(3) charity and your donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Please complete the attached application and return at your earliest convenience. Application Here

We could not do what we do without the help of dedicated volunteers. Short- and long-term opportunities are available. Here are some examples of volunteer assignments:
Volunteer Backpack Packer
We need volunteers to pack the backpacks full of food as part of the Albany Backpack Food Program. In groups of 8 to 10 people, volunteers work in an assembly line fashion to pack all the bags. The process takes no more than 2 hours. Volunteers must be able to list upwards of 20lbs and stand for extended periods of time. We are flexible with packing times once groups of volunteers are formed. First time volunteers will receive a briefing and sign the volunteer waiver prior to their first packing session.
Volunteer Delivery Driver
We need volunteers to deliver the packed backpacks full of food to local schools as part of the Albany Backpack Food Program. Volunteers arrive at the HATAS warehouse on Friday morning to load packs filled with food into their personal vehicle. Pick up time from the warehouse is flexible but all backpacks must be delivered before noon. A delivery of 30 backpacks to one school takes no more than an hour. Volunteers must submit a copy of their driver's license, have valid insurance, be 21+ years of age, have a clear DMV record, and must provide their own vehicle. First time volunteers will receive a briefing and sign the volunteer waiver prior to their first driving shift. .
Furniture Bank Volunteers
Assisting the furniture bank with daily task such as maintaining warehouse and assist with pick up and delivery of furniture.
Clean winter coats
Hats and Socks
Diapers (all sizes), Diaper Wipes, and Diaper Cream
Clean, unused pajamas for children aged birth to ten
Why do we ask for toys made of wood? Our children have very little and toys made of wood are miniature works of arts that are beautiful to look at and easy to clean.
HATAS collects toys and pajamas all year long and especially at the holidays.
Last year HATAS distributed over 300 sets of pajamas, 175 wood toys and 6,050 diapers to homeless and hungry families.
