HATAS Mission and History

HATAS was formed in 1924 with the mission to end homelessness within Albany County and the Capital Region. We meet the immediate need for shelter, food and clothing in addition to addressing the long-term need for affordable housing and employment. Over the course of 2015, HATAS assisted over 12,500 persons seeking assistance within the Capital Region.

HATAS programs include 104 units of housing, mental health, 24/7 emergency shelter, rapid re-housing, backpacks for hungry students, furniture bank, code blue, veteran housing, and employment assistance. We employ a holistic wrap-around approach in caring for our neighbors in need and we serve all persons with dignity and respect. HATAS works in concert with our partners in service to eliminate duplication and to increase the quality of services available within the Capital Region.

HATAS is located at 138 Central Avenue Albany, New York 12206. You can reach HATAS by calling (518) 463-2124 or by e-mailing us at info@hatas.org. Our main office is open from 8:30 am to 7pm on business days. After hours, please call 518.463.2124 for assistance.
